Listening to: The Perfect 10 Top 100 countdown

This time last year, I gave props to the best music acts of 2003. This year, I shall do it again! And here are the winners...

Band of the Year - Maroon 5
Their album Songs About Jane has been out for a while, but hit after hit still keeps coming. Truly a knockout punch of pop/rock/funk/R & B/whatever.

Honorable mentions: OutKast, Jet

Vocalist of the Year - Stefanie Sun
Singapore's cutest female singer is back, and sounding better than ever.

Honorable mentions: Avril Lavigne, Gwen Stefani, Ryan Cabrera

Local Act of the Year - Electrico
What more can I say... here's to a even bigger and better 2005 for these guys!

Honorable mentions: Pug Jelly, Parking Lot Pimp
Song of the Year - "This Love" - Maroon 5

Honorable mentions: "Everybody's Changing" - Keane, "Gravity" - Embrace, "I Want You" - Electrico

Comeback of the Year: U2
Together for more than 20 years and still churning out perfect pop/rock, their brand of politically and socially charged music is unsurpassed.

Honorable mention: Green Day

Most overplayed Song of the Year: "The Reason" - Hoobastank
Urgh. :(

Honorable mentions: "She Will Be Loved" - Maroon 5, "My Boo" - Usher feat. Alicia Keys

***

That's it! The next time I write, it'll be 2005. Happy New Year. :)

0157hrs

It's quite sobering to read news about the Asian tidal waves. At time of writing, more than 114,000 people have lost their lives, and millions upon millions more are homeless without food, water or shelter.

Reading the papers yesterday, there was this terrible picture of two little kids lying on a morgue slab. The worst part wasn't their injuries or the fact that they died so young; it's that they were dressed in swimsuits and trunks. It must have been just horrific - a feeling I can never imagine, and also never hope to experience.

On a marginally brighter note, it is heartening to see that Singaporeans have opened their wallets to help out their fellow citizens of the world. To date, more than $5 million has been collected in cash, and tons and tons in essential items. Good for you, Singapore! :)

Many of the NYE celebrations here in Singapore have been scaled down or cancelled. The Sentosa countdown will not be shown on TV, and firework displays around town will not go on. Indeed, I think it'll be weird to drink and make merry in a time like this.

Where will you be tonight, the last night of the year? I will be at the Esplanade, catching Corrinne May and Electrico performing live. Hope to see some friends there...

But before that, I have decided to end the year on a positive note by going to NTUC and purchasing some items to bring to SPH for donation to the tsunami victims. God only knows how damn lucky we are here. It's time to give back a little bit.

Listening to: Jimmy Eat World - The Middle

Today was the first time I had a barbeque in the rain. Well, sort of.

We were at East Coast Park to celebrate peggy's birthday! But as we reached the beach, it started to drizzle. Then it poured like mad! Arghhhh.

Thank goodness we had this disposable BBQ pit! It's damn cool lah, $3 for the aluminium tray, charcoal, wire mesh, and this super flammable paper which burns like mad! (y)

kx was involved in a minor incident with a marshmallow: she set it on fire:

She claimed it was an accident... hmmm... =X

Not to be outdone, priscilla decided to perform her fireeating trick:

Kids, do not try this at home. She's a trained professional.

I decided to do the most conventional thing to a marshmallow: eat it lah, lol. Melting a square of Cadbury milk chocolate with a marshmallow: yummy!! (y)(y)

Mr and Mrs Peg + flowers + birthday cake = a very nice photo. :)

The cake was humongous lor, haha. We only finished half of it!

Me and birthday girl! (Yes Peggy your head looks smaller than mine, happy now? :P)

Finally, the all of us at the end of a nice day. :)

Listening to: Wang Lee Hom - Ni He Wo

Looking at the dates of the pix I took yesterday, I realised why December 29 seemed so familiar.

On this day five years ago, I boarded a fastcraft from Changi, exchanged my pink IC for a green one, pledged to "preserve and protect the honour and independence of our country" with my life, and said goodbye to my parents.

How time flies.

Anyways, back to the pix, which are arranged in chronological order so you can see the sky gradually darken.:)

Plate tectonics have caused this shocking scene: the Leaning Tower of Swissotel. :O

Did you know the Cenotaph is a memorial for both world wars? This side is the WWI side.

So we can only exercise in these "Designated Exercise Areas" issit? Got specific days and times somemore. How to become a fitter nation like that? (n)

I love the colour of the sky, and the clouds spread across it. My favourite photo of the day :)

I remember when this bridge was damn secluded and quiet... now it's filled with kids doing stunts on BMXs and, strangely enough, a group of people doing para para moves. :S

Finally, there was this group of bagpipe players at the Esplanade... and this little boy found a very interesting angle to watch the performance, lol. :P

Listening to:

Amy Winehouse - Frank (2004)

The above album is one I seriously recommend. It's quite amazing how a 19-year-old Brit girl sounds like she's been singing in dark, smoky jazz nightclubs for years.

In other news, mrbrown has put up some info for those of you out there who want to help victims of the Asian tsunamis. Check it out here.

Listening to: The Brilliant Green - Angel

Streats had its farewall party tonight at Central Mall. As with all goodbyes, it was filled with anecdotes, laughter and tears. One by one, the editors, reps, production staff and ops personnel took to the stage to share their experiences with the paper.

Three more days before the end. I wish everyone the very best.

Listening to: Aussie bands on triple j radio

Yesterday evening, I was at Mohd Sultan Road. But not to club of course... (clubbing on Sunday night? Err. =X)

The place is most quiet before dark. But I was on a mission! To eat more fondue, hahaha. This time at the Gallery Hotel.

This is really, really good stuff. Recommended! (y)(y)

It was so good, even my notebook couldn't resist! (note: picture not posed in any way!)

But after eating so much chocolate in three days, I really need a break. Don't really like it all that much, hahaha. :)
