I don't usually recommend websites, but here are a few I've read recently that deserve some publicity and mention. So do click and check them out alrite? ;)

Rock On Singapore

A two-day local music festival to be held on June 17 and 18 at Orchard Green, featured bands who will each play a 40-minute set include The Observatory, Ronin, Chou Pi Jiang and, of course, Electrico as mentioned earlier. Audio and video downloads of some of the bands are available.

[editor's note: the website music cannot be turned off, so it may be NSFW.]

Parking Lot Pimp

Their debut album Welcome To Our Frequency is out in stores now! Listen to the audio samples on the site... I remember they were really quite good at the "Made In Singapore" gig last year.

Projectdiy.net

The brainchild of three young Singaporeans who are into making original Chinese music. I happen to know one of them very vaguely...

(I once told someone I thought she's cute, and that someone went to tell her. Goddamn. Anyway, I realise with horror now that this is not the first time this has happened to me already [right, yann and ash? grrrr]. I have got to keep my mouth shut next time. :X)

... and I must say that the songs are really quite good, if you like acoustic music. (y)

Listening to: Electrico - Take Me Out (live)

May 29, 2005: dark clouds rolling in

From the Electrico website:

"Electrico is in the studio recording our follow up album. You're gonna love it. Tentative release date - October/November 2005. We hope this makes up for the lack of communication on our part. In due time, there'll be a new-look website. We won't be playing as much live until the album is out, but we promise at least one show per month somewhere or other. We'll have a sneak preview of all-new material sometime in August. Until then, thanks and we'll see y'all soon."

Yeah, it's been a while dudes. FYI, their next gig will be a set at "Rock On Singapore" (part of the Singapore Arts Festival) on June 18. I don't think I can make it (DAMNIT!), but more on that later...

In other news, at last night's 16th Annual Golden Melody Awards held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan:

Apple Daily Taiwan

Our very own Yanzi picks up the Best Female Artist award, yay! She's seen here with Stanley Huang (Best Male Artist)...

Apple Daily Taiwan

... and this is why Jay Chou (who was 0-for-6 at the awards, by the way) dumped Jolin Tsai... Patty Hou! (y) Heheh.

Finally, about June 18... well that's the day I'm coming back lah. Yeah, I'm leaving for Switzerland/Thailand in exactly TEN days time baby! Technically I could rush down for the gig from the airport (flight arrives around 6.45pm), but I reckon I'll be seriously tired/jetlagged/whatever... sighhh. So probably have to wait till Baybeats in July to see Electrico again? :O

Jocie Guo - Lao Shu Ai Da Mi (2005)

While I was at HMV yesterday, this album (or EP, rather) was playing. I must say that she's got quite a nice clear voice, and the song is really catchy. The techno version really sucks though. (n)

[editor's note: this is the number one album on HMV's Asian chart... maybe 'cos it only costs $5.95?]

Anyway, it was Saturday again yesterday, and as with most Saturdays nowadays, it involved lots of a) eating and b) driving around.

I'm too lazy to write in complete sentences anymore, so...

- Went swimming in the late morning. Got a slight sunburn on my face and shoulders now!
- Found out that Cathay raised its ticket prices too, bloody hell :@
- Ate lunch at a foodcourt... first time in a long time leh, come to think about it hmmm
- Bought more socks! adidas got 30% sale haha. After a little (just a smidge, actually) consideration, Sharon bought two L'arc CD singles for 40 bucks :X
- Watched Madagascar [digital]... like I can tell the difference ;)
- Rushed home to fetch my mum to a wedding dinner
- Went to Liang Court for kakiage udon (quite nice leh) and to Kino where she bought a book/magazine thingie
- Wanted to have fondue at the Gallery Hotel, but the damn restaurant has changed. :@!!!
- Ended up at tcc at GWC where we rushed through our drinks 'cos my mum was awaiting her chauffeur
- Sent mum home, met up with the bros for supper at KPT again. Heheh.
- Reached home at dunno what time. Zzzz.

Yeah, long day lah. But fun of course. :) Wish it was Saturday again...

Listening to: Vivian Hsu - Hen Hen Ai

We wanted to catch a movie yesterday. Since it was the weekend, the best place to watch would be at a Cathay cinema right? Since they haven't raised their ticket price?

WRONG. Cathay has quietly raised its ticket prices by a dollar since the middle of the month. &£$%!!!

So we ended up paying $19 to watch this:

Madagascar (2005)

A DreamWorks animation film (after Shrek 2 and Shark Tale), the story centres around four animals in a New York City zoo. There's Alex the lion (voiced by Ben Stiller), Marty the zebra (Chris Rock, who can't decide if he's black with white stripes or white with black stripes), Melman the giraffe (David Schwimmer) and Gloria the hippo (Jada Pinkett-Smith).

[editor's note: Ben Stiller's the guy from Meet The Parents/Fockers, Chris Rock hosted this year's Oscars, David Schwimmer was Ross from Friends and Jada Pinkett-Smith is Will Smith's wife.]

Marty's tenth birthday has just passed, but he's kinda developed a mid-life crisis, and decides that he belongs in the wild. And so, he tries to escape from the zoo!

As it is quite difficult to take the subway when you are a zebra, he gets caught at Grand Central Station, along with his friends who had tried to find him.

Together with a bunch of crazed penguins, Marty, Alex, Melman and Gloria are shipped off to Kenya after the humans decided that they all belong in the wild. (Even the penguins go to Africa. ^o))

However, a slight mishap causes the latter four to end up in Madagascar, where they meet the native lemurs (led by a hilarious Ali G). The rest of the story is about how Alex, the only natural carnivore, battles with his instincts which are telling him to eat everything in sight! :O

Sounds simple? Yeah it is a very simple plot that, unfortunately, seems more catered for our younger friends. There are funny moments here and there (mostly provided by the penguins and lemurs), but nothing really memorable.

Remember, Cathay is evil. (n)

Lester's rating: 3/5 stars!

Jimmy Eat World - Futures (2004)

Anyone heard of them before? Won't blame you if you haven't, with all that crap (McFly! omg) on the radio these days. Jimmy Eat World is quite an old band (formed in 1994) from Arizona that plays an interesting blend of pop-rock-emo. Achieving moderate commercial success a few years back with their single "The Middle" (got play on radio one), they're finally back with their fourth album which is very listenable and surprisingly radio-friendly.

Quick question to all: if you only had $20 in your wallet, would you:

a) buy a CD, or
b) have a good meal?

I posed the question to agent s., who gave me a really hard time. :@

her: if I only had $20 left, I would do neither.
me: cannot lah! Must choose one.
her: how can like that one! Cannot generalise my answer.
me: *sigh* just choose one can anot.
her:
hmmm... whose CD issit?
me: errr... someone you really like?
her: who lah?!
me: *exasperated* mine lah mine! My CD!
her: *thinks* your CD must buy one meh! Not you give me ah? You give me lah, then I will spend the $20 on a meal. :)

:@!

olduvai had a better answer: "Last $20 - CD. Last $30 - good meal."

Finally, it was good to see xw and yf (I kowtow to your amazing memory! bu kui shi lao shi... :P) yesterday. Haha.

Yay it's Saturday again! :) Have a good one people.

Listening to: Matchbox Twenty - Unwell

"I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell..."

Kinda feel that way today. My hands and feet are cold and clammy, I feel feverish and just a little quite nauseous. The night was divided into fitful bouts of sleep, interspersed with attacks from a mutant strain of PPS.

Sigh, I really wanted to talk to you last night leh...

Oh well... it's Friday.

L'Arc~en~Ciel - The Fourth Avenue Cafe [single] (1996)

I was reading old entries again... and I decided to try this quiz that she took a few months back. The results... hmmm.

• agent s. is the one that you love.
• You care most about xiggy.
eggplant is the one who knows you very well.
alvin is your lucky star.
• "fourth avenue cafe" is the song that matches with agent s.
• "collide is the song" that tells you most about YOUR mind.
• and "angels" is the song telling you how you feel about life.

WHOA. Scary, this. How uncanny...

Now, will you tell me what the lyrics of "Fourth Avenue Cafe" mean? It sounds nice but I dunno the words...
