Listening to: Oasis - Lyla

This one's for my dad, who's more generous than I give him credit for. ;)

We met just past noon at a Japanese restaurant in town; as I walked in, he was already peering at the menu and trying to fend off the overzealous waitress ("Sir, you sure it's enough?").

We started off with some sashimi:

Just look how thick the slices are. (y)(y)!

Dad recommended the beef sukiyaki set:

The portion was pretty huge and I had some trouble finishing it. My appetite is getting worse... sigh.

So anyway after lunch, I told Dad that I wanted to go look for sneakers at FEP. Since he's the boss and has nothing better to do ("go back surf Internet only"), he went with me!

At the shoe shop, I pointed out the pair that I liked. He took out his glasses, peered at them ("made in Vietnam leh"), then declared: "I think I can wear this one leh!"

I was suitably mortified. Thankfully, he spotted another pair and promptly tried them on:

The sight of him trying on a pair of Nike sneakers while in a shirt and tie: priceless.

The shop didn't have his size, so the sales staff said he would go over to another branch to get it. We would have to wait for a half hour, so we went to get a drink outside.

And so it was him with his coffee and blowing smoke into my face, and me with my barley drink, sitting outside FEP at 2 o'clock in the afternoon like a couple of delinquents. Very surreal.

Later on, the guy got my dad's shoes, and as they were being put into the box, a funny conversation began.

Dad: What's your name?
Sales staff: *softly* Ah Choon.
Dad: Har??
Sales staff: *louder* Ah Choon.
Dad: *thinks* Got English name anot?
Sales staff: Got... Leorick.
Dad: ... ... nice name!

Anyway, here's a nicer shot of my dad's new shoes:

And of course, mine too! :)

Listening to: Jay Chou - Ke Ai Nu Ren

Episode III opens in theatres today! Was thinking if I want to catch it... after all, although I know a lot of Star Wars trivia, I haven't watched a single episode before. Haha.

So let's see what little do I know of the story:

1) It's basically a simple story of good vs evil, and how a good guy is lured by evil forces and crosses over to The Dark Side

2) There's a good mix of humans, aliens and robot gadget thingies in the cast

3) Luke Skywalker's dad is Darth Vader aka Anakin

4) Lightsabers are really cool

5) ... ... err that's about it.

Haha! To watch or not to watch? Maybe I should rent Episodes I, II and IV to VI and spend this Saturday on a Star Wars marathon! :O

In the meantime, here are a few recommended reads:

- yann's kickass review of Episode III
- mrbrown's Flickr photoset of the Episode III premiere

And my cousin Eugene spent a day hanging out with Star Wars fanatics outside the Ziegfeld Theatre in Manhattan, New York:

But whether or not I catch ROTS (haha stupid acronym), this one definitely must watch:

Opens June 29!

Listening to: Avril Lavigne - Fall To Pieces

On Monday night, shucks had a very late dinner in town. These late dinners are fast becoming a common (editor's note: hey, the word "common" has two meanings, both of which apply here!) reality of our lives these days.

But hey, late dinner is better than no dinner. I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

So anyways, we went to this place at Wheelock Place naughtily named the Big O, where we had, well, orgasmic dessert treats:

I had The G Spot (tsk tsk, this place very naughty haha :X), a warm chocolate fudge cake...

... still in Star Wars mode, agent s. (whose article was published today, yay! :D) had a slice of The Love Bug (dunno why it's called that), actually a Bailey's ice cream mudpie.

And now, a special demonstration on how to eat a mudpie!

Says her: "I'll always have room for dessert!"

I'm back at home.

Feeling more restless and out of sorts than I've been for a long time.

Anyone wants to grab an ice-blended, a Hoegaarden, a Milo peng? Call me please. Hopefully you live nearby though...

Listening to: Hootie and the Blowfish - Hold My Hand

And hold my hand she did... this one's just for you:

Friday the 13th@Coffee Club

Okay, so everyone has certain skills that they learn in the course of their lives. For me, I can swim fairly well, drive anything from a car to a 27-ton lorry, operate a small sailboat...

... but the one thing I hadn't learnt how to do: ride a bike.

Yeah yeah, laugh all you like, but no one ever taught me okay? And in recent years, it'd become a case of "why do I want to cycle when I can drive", lol.

I think it's the one thing about me that nobody knew.

So anyway, I recently told agent s. about it. She took it pretty calmly: "Oh." And so we decided to try adding one more "life skill" (as she puts it quite aptly) to me. :)

So last Saturday, after a yummy breakfast at Killiney Kopitiam (Siglap):

... we first headed to get some socks for me, 'cos she thinks ankle socks are really nice. Errr, okay loh... hahaha :X

Tadah! Quite nice lah I like my new socks. :)

Then it was off to East Coast Park... we spent some time trying to recce an area that was less crowded. Finally, we found a petrol bike kiosk near the Big Splash and rented a bike for 3 hours. $9 only!

When I got onto the bike, it felt like every time previously I got onto one: no balance leh. (w) Hahaha. The first 20 minutes were quite frustrating... think we must have gone at least a kilometre just rolling along! Hahaha.

Then suddenly, I could pedal for a few metres. Progress! (y) And some time later (about one and a half hours after we started), I could cycle fairly steadily. :)

Sharon is usually quite a reticent kind of girl. But as I looked back at her while pedalling furiously away, she was jumping up and down with delight and excitement... something I've never seen before. It made all the huge ugly bruises on my shins (still there after three days, lol) worthwhile.

She was super patient and held my bike so I wouldn't topple over and break my head. She walked holding my bike in the hot sun and never once complained... even when I told her quite rudely to "give me a break". :$

We turned back to the kiosk and rented another bike so we could cycle together. Cycling is quite fun, haha. I will remember turning smoothly into the little jetty where we took a short rest before returning the bikes... do you remember? That was nice...

Someday soon, we will be able to cycle side by side.

Dear is the best. :)

0828hrs

Did you know that...

1) George Lucas once hinted to the press that there would be nine, or even twelve films in the Star Wars series, before mysteriously changing his story as he was writing Episode One in '97-'98?

2) Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope is the Number 1 film ever, beating Titanic when box office figures have been adjusted for inflation? (US box office: $1,012,785,986)

3) Carrie Fisher (who played Princess Leia) was a major junkie who was stoned on the set?

4) the first movie tie-in toys that were produced in mid-1977 was called the "Early Bird Certificate Package"?

5) There's a woman in Bedok who owns 45,000 Star Wars action figures?

Well, I do. Everyone please read tomorrow's papers. In the meantime, I'm going back to bed. (w)

Listening to: Mika Nakashima - F [sakura iro mau koro]

"Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with string
These are a few of my favourite things."

What are a few of your favourite things?

I like...

... making star-wands out of plastic straws. Drinking Seasons ice lemon tea. Eating hot dogs from MOS Burger. Meiji chocolate. Sitting in a comfortable couch at a nice quiet coffee joint, with an ice-blended in hand. Listening to Mika Nakashima...

... watching you make funny faces, like ^o) and :X. Listening to the sound of your voice when you speak, and especially when you sing softly. Receiving messages from you, no matter what the subject is. Talking about how crap our lives are, and bitching discussing about our friends and enemies. Driving everywhere and anywhere with you in the passenger seat, feeding me all sorts of tidbits...

... being amused by how the most trivial and silly things can capture your rapt attention. Being grossed out by the way you play with your leftovers. Watching you take pictures of plants. Listening to the sound of you breathing. Smoothening your messy hair...

On this day, at this time, I'm thinking about all these things.
