Listening to: Hootie and the Blowfish - Hold My Hand
And hold my hand she did... this one's just for you:
Friday the 13th@Coffee Club
Okay, so everyone has certain skills that they learn in the course of their lives. For me, I can swim fairly well, drive anything from a car to a 27-ton lorry, operate a small sailboat...
... but the one thing I hadn't learnt how to do: ride a bike.
Yeah yeah, laugh all you like, but no one ever taught me okay? And in recent years, it'd become a case of "why do I want to cycle when I can drive", lol.
I think it's the one thing about me that
nobody knew.
So anyway, I recently told
agent s. about it. She took it pretty calmly:
"Oh." And so we decided to try adding one more "life skill" (as she puts it quite aptly) to me. :)
So last Saturday, after a yummy breakfast at Killiney Kopitiam (Siglap):
... we first headed to get some socks for me, 'cos she thinks ankle socks are really nice. Errr, okay loh... hahaha :X
Tadah! Quite nice lah I like my new socks. :)
Then it was off to East Coast Park... we spent some time trying to recce an area that was less crowded. Finally, we found a
petrol bike kiosk near the Big Splash and rented a bike for 3 hours. $9 only!
When I got onto the bike, it felt like every time previously I got onto one: no balance leh. (w) Hahaha. The first 20 minutes were quite frustrating... think we must have gone at least a kilometre just rolling along! Hahaha.
Then suddenly, I could pedal for a few metres. Progress! (y) And some time later (about one and a half hours after we started), I could cycle fairly steadily. :)
Sharon is usually quite a reticent kind of girl. But as I looked back at her while pedalling furiously away, she was jumping up and down with delight and excitement... something I've never seen before. It made all the huge ugly bruises on my shins (still there after three days, lol) worthwhile.
She was super patient and held my bike so I wouldn't topple over and break my head. She walked holding my bike in the hot sun and never once complained... even when I told her quite rudely to "give me a break". :$
We turned back to the kiosk and rented another bike so we could cycle together. Cycling is quite fun, haha. I will remember turning smoothly into the little jetty where we took a short rest before returning the bikes... do you remember? That was nice...
Someday soon, we will be able to cycle side by side.
Dear is the best. :)
