Listening to: Mika Nakashima - F [sakura iro mau koro]

"Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with string
These are a few of my favourite things."

What are a few of your favourite things?

I like...

... making star-wands out of plastic straws. Drinking Seasons ice lemon tea. Eating hot dogs from MOS Burger. Meiji chocolate. Sitting in a comfortable couch at a nice quiet coffee joint, with an ice-blended in hand. Listening to Mika Nakashima...

... watching you make funny faces, like ^o) and :X. Listening to the sound of your voice when you speak, and especially when you sing softly. Receiving messages from you, no matter what the subject is. Talking about how crap our lives are, and bitching discussing about our friends and enemies. Driving everywhere and anywhere with you in the passenger seat, feeding me all sorts of tidbits...

... being amused by how the most trivial and silly things can capture your rapt attention. Being grossed out by the way you play with your leftovers. Watching you take pictures of plants. Listening to the sound of you breathing. Smoothening your messy hair...

On this day, at this time, I'm thinking about all these things.

0930hrs

Everyone bought new sneakers yesterday:

Except for me! Humpfh. I'm so going to get new sneakers this week. Haha.

In other news, from Puunkroc:

Listening to:

Electrico - So Much More Inside (2004)

It's been a really long time since the POW gig, and the last I heard there are none coming up soon. (w)

But I still really like the album. I rarely like to be alone, but on Thursday night I was cruising down the expressway by myself, singing along to "Studman" turned on at full blast... now that's something I wouldn't mind doing again.

Listening to: Matchbox 20 - 3AM

It's been a long and memorable day. In the past 12 hours, I've:

1) had yummy kaya toast and mee rebus at Killiney Kopitiam
2) bought got my first pair of ankle socks
3) rode a bike for three hours (this is a big thing... but later then tell you all the story haha :X)
4) had very good Japanese food

Okay, it doesn't sound like a lot of things but it is lah hor! Damn tired now. More tomorrow...

Oh yay it's raining now. Great weather to sleep. :)

Listening to: Maroon 5 - Must Get Out

It's a friggin' hot day today:

Hope it's like that tomorrow too! Got some really exciting plans. :X

In other news, I don't usually read the CD reviews in Friday's paper as I find that the albums are, more often than not, very left-of-field. But this week's selection is like "wow, I wanna get my hands on all these CDs!".

Aimee Mann - The Forgotten Arm (2005)

Those of you who know me better will know that I don't really like female singers (prefer bands), but this is one very notable exception. Aimee Mann writes great songs, has an unmistakable lilt in her voice, and this is her first studio album in 3 years! :) And check out the cover art. (y)

Someone who reminds me of Aimee Mann:

Corrinne May - Safe In A Crazy World (2005)

The album that I said was worth checking out on New Year's Day is finally in stores. More of the same from Corrinne, piano-driven pop.

And a guy whom I really want to recommend to everyone - kinda a cross between Aimee Mann and Corrinne May:

Ben Folds - Songs For Silverman (2005)

Much like Aimee, Ben Folds is an American singer-songwriter with a bittersweet tinge to his work and a cult following with limited commercial success. He has come into his own after the breakup of his band Ben Folds Five (which was a trio, go figure), the original guitarless band before Keane. Ben's piano playing style is unique and more than makes up for the lack of soaring guitar solos and neat licks.

I wonder if agent s. can wrangle anything out of her supe. :X

1354hrs

Watching:

Triple H and Motorhead, WrestleMania 21 (2005)

Yes, I'm a huge wrestling fan. But that's a story for another day.

I already know who won the Race lah, no thanks to the stupid newspapers :@ They just can't stop reporting about it, sian leh. Oh well... at least it's not like the previous season of Survivor when thy reported the winner before the episode was aired. Oops.

Anyway, also in today's paper was a letter titled "I may not be what I listen to". It's written by a lady in response to a columnist's recent piece on how the music we listen to says a lot about us. So anyway, she went on to give a list of "the 30 songs on my MP3 playlist" (hello IPOS, are you reading this. lol):

1, 6, 9, 15, 20, 24, 25: songs by Joe Dassin, a French (I think) singer. Shall not reproduce the titles as they're all in French, haha. Probably the letter writer has the album? Hmmm.

2. "Accidentally In Love (from the movie Shrek)": err hello, it's by the Counting Crows.

3. "All About You" - McFly: my god, what does this tell me about your music tastes man! Ewwwwwwww (n)(n)(n) [editor's note: I really hate McFly, but that's also a story for another day]

4. "Almost Here" - Delta Goodrem and Brian McFadden: yucks. Sorry ghimlay :X

10. "Harder To Breathe" - Maroon 5: err, not bad, but there's also Radio Overkill Song #1 on the list at

22. "She Will Be Loved" - Maroon 5.

12. "In The Shadows" - The Rasmus: wah piang, Eurorock really sucks man. (n)

14. "Jerk It Out - Caesar's Palace": hello, Caesar's Palace is a hotel in Las Vegas (btw yann did you see it over there?). How embarrassing. Who edits these letters!

17. "Magnifique - SingTel 3G tech ad": I am sure she downloaded this!

The only saving graces in this highly questionable playlist are Keane (21. "She Has No Time", 28. "This Is The Last Time") and The Killers (18. "Mr Brightside" and 26. "Somebody Told Me").

This really smacks of someone who just wants to show off how cool she is leh. Wah piang, why liddat! Tsk tsk.
