Listening to: Heart - These Dreams

It all started with an American blogger using a picture of Singapore's best most popular most famous blogger in one of his posts. Two damn bo liao old men picked up on it, and started what is now known as "I'm too sexy for my blog" - The Great Singapore Blogger Project!

If all this is news to you, tsk tsk. (n) Call yourself a netizen!

Okay lah, don't say I never tell you leh. Now you can do your part and contribute! As of now, 40 bloggers have had their spoof pix linked by mr brown. And here's mine! (with a little help from agent s. :P)

Hoho this is really fun. It's amazing how fast stuff (especially bo liao stuff) spreads on the Net.

Now, if you consider yourself a good Singapore blogger, go post your picture too! :D

Listening to: The Cure - Lovesong

Dad sent us an e-mail on Monday afternoon with some good news... there are available seats on the flight dates we wanted, yay! So if all goes well, I'll be away from June 8 to 17. :D

Ten things we can do there:

1) buy Swatch watches really cheap
2) see if all the townfolk carry one of those Army knifes each
3) engorge ourselves with a s**tload of chocolates
4) see if the cows really have cowbells
5) moo at a cow, see if it moos back
6) learn how to ski
7) see snow
8) make snowmen a la Calvin ;)
9) throw snowballs, a la Hobbes!
10) climb atop a mountain peak and holler: "Reeeeeeeee-colaaaaaaaaaaa!!!"

This is all terribly exciting. :)

Listening to: Ash - Lost In You

I was almost late for school today haha, 'cos I was watching a delightful little Singapore short film called Tak Giu, which is "to kick a ball" in Hokkien. As you may be able to guess from the title, it's about a couple of boys who go in search of a football field to play on.

The film is very funny and will strike a chord in those of us who played football in our younger years (and got chased away from void decks by policemen:X). I recognised some of the filming locations to be very near to my primary school and my home in general! The long uncut grass and bald sandy patches (on the same field, haha), the rusty fences with overgrown weeds, the void decks with the "no football" sign (there's a hilarious scene about this which must not be missed, heheh)... all things that remind me of my childhood when I used to play football everyday after school, haha.

The climax of the film is a hilarious spoof of the Nike Ole! ads, and there's a happy ending of course. Overall, a great way to spend 15 minutes. :) Visit the website to download the film; it's about 56MB but takes less than a minute to download using cable/broadband. Enjoy!

Listening to: Stereophonics - Dakota

"The important thing in island living is to be your own activity director. And I find the key is to think of the day in units of time no more than 30 minutes. Taking a bath, one unit. Exercising, three units. Having my hair carefully dishevelled, four units."

- a pearl of wisdom from Hugh Grant in About A Boy, who doesn't believe in the saying "no man is an island". He's exercising in the picture, as you can see ;)

***

I find this concept of dividing the day into units highly interesting. It certainly puts things into perspective doesn't it? It's funny how I'll be looking at my watch every 3 minutes when I'm in class, yet when I'm watching a movie or having dinner, time just flashes past. Hmmm...

And so I got to thinking how I spend a typical day, in terms of units (each unit = 30 minutes).

- Slacking around: 14 units
- Sleeping: 12 units
- School: 12 units
- Eating: 4 units
- Doing work: 4 units (on a very good day :$)
- Taking a bath: 1 unit
- Travelling: 1 unit

Fwah I feel like a sloth now! Shucks. (w)

Oh well. Back to the 14 units of slacking... haha ;)

Listening to: Kylie Minogue - I Believe In You

This year, I've already watched more movies than the whole of last year. And the trend is set to increase, with lots of good shows coming up, and also because of this:

Hoho, my sis (and to a lesser extent, me) went crazy at MJ/TS yesterday! In all, we bought eight movies and one Stef Sun karaoke VCD, lol. My choices were (top left) That Thing You Do! (I've got a thing for movies about bands and music) and Maria Full Of Grace, which I've heard a lot about. The rest are my sister's choices of educational movies to enrich her (and her students') soul, hahaha. ;)

I also think I'm going to get this, yay!

Listening to: Do As Infinity - For The Future

I watched a Japanese film on DVD yesterday, and have been strongly encouraged to do a review on it... so here goes!

Last Quarter (2004)

An adaptation of a popular manga called Kagen No Tsuki, the film is headlined by Chiaki Kuriyama (the psychotic girl from Battle Royale and Kill Bill) and Hyde, the lead singer of popular band LArc-en-Ciel.

Kuriyama is Mizuki, a girl who breaks up with her boyfriend on her 19th birthday and wanders to an eerie abandoned house where she finds Adam (Hyde), a mysterious guitar-playing dude.

Hyde doesn't have too many lines in the film, but I think all he has to do is to be on screen for all the girls to faint in their seats. ^o)

Anyway, a week later, Mizuki finds Adam missing, and a phonecall from him sends her rushing to meet him. However, she is hit by a truck and goes into a coma. This starts a chain of events which, if I were to explain in detail, would take a few days for me to remember and type out :S In a nutshell, Mizuki's soul is trapped in the eerie house after her accident, and her boyfriend and two random kids try their darndest to get her out of there. Heheh.

Here's the boyfriend Tomoki (Hiroki Narimiya) and the two random kids, Hotaru (Tomoka Kurokawa) and Masaki (Motoki Ochiai). The latter two are 15 and 16 years old respectively in real life! :O

Together, they discover the mystery surrounding Adam and his connection with Mizuki, and all the loose ends are nicely tied up by the end of the very long movie.

Comments about the film? Hmm, it's definitely not a no-brainer kind of movie... I was really thinking hard and going "ohhhhh!" when something clicked, haha. But it's mostly well-acted (mostly...) and the script is well-written.

Oh yah... thank God for English subtitles. Heheh.

Lester's rating: 3.5/5 stars!
